Bilingualisme di Perusahaan Multinasional: Analisis Preferensi dan Praktik Komunikasi Korporat

  • Agnes Arum Budiana

Abstract

This research aims to understand the dynamics of language choice in multinational corporations (MNCs), particularly regarding employee preferences and communication practices in Indonesia. By surveying six MNC employees, the study reveals variations in the use of English and Indonesian as corporate languages. The survey results show that an employee with more than 20 years of experience as a talent coordinator uses English exclusively in corporate communication. Meanwhile, an employee with 1-5 years of experience, working as an architect, prefers Indonesian as the corporate language. Four other employees, who have worked for 11-15 years and hold managerial and department head positions, use both languages bilingually in daily communication. These findings suggest that language choices in MNCs are influenced by various factors, including length of service, job position, and field of work. Additionally, language proficiency, cultural identity, and individual comfort also play a significant role in determining the language used. This research provides insights for multinational companies to better understand and manage linguistic diversity in the workplace, enhancing communication effectiveness and fostering an inclusive organizational culture.
