Abstract

This research aims to design and develop an IoT-based monitoring system to monitor the stability and performance of the Polbeng 2 ship’s engine. Background: Ensuring ships' safety and operational efficiency through real-time condition monitoring is crucial. The objective of this research is to develop a system that can detect the ship’s tilt using the MPU6050 sensor and monitor the engine temperature using the DS18B20 sensor.

Methods: The approach involves collecting data from these sensors, processing the data with an ESP32 microcontroller, and transmitting the data to a server for real-time analysis and monitoring. The collected data allows continuous monitoring of the ship’s condition, providing accurate and timely information to the ship’s operator.

Results: The testing results indicate that this system can provide accurate information about the ship’s condition, which is essential for ensuring safety and operational efficiency. Further development is recommended to add more sensors, integrate the system with alarms, conduct more extensive field testing, improve network connectivity, and provide training to ship operators. Implementing these recommendations is expected to make the monitoring system for the stability and performance of the Polbeng 2 engine more effective in enhancing the ship’s safety and operational efficiency.
