Abstract

The diesel engine is a combustion engine with a combustion process that occurs inside the engine itself. The diesel engine is used as a driving force to turn the generator on PT. PLN (PERSERO) ULPLTD Bagan Besar of Bengkalis PLTD. The diesel engine used at PT. PLN Bengkalis is a caterpillar machine type 3512B. The engine often leaks radiator pipes, thus hampering the performance of PT. PLN Bengkalis.This study uses the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method as a tools to analyze the damage caused by radiator pipe leaks that occur on the caterpillar machine type 3512B. The machines that are used as research objects are 4 units in PT. PLN Bengkalis.The results of analysis obtained that leaked out pipe has a severity value of 9, occurance 8, and detection 4 so as to produce an RPN 288. Potential failure that occurs in the outlet pipe has the highest RPN number that causes leakage in the radiator pipe. Vibration, pressure and temperature are the main causes of leakage in the outlet pipe.
