Abstract

Bamboo traps are the dominant fishing gear used in the Ombilin River. This type of basic material for making bamboo traps is difficult to obtain and takes a long time in the manufacturing process so that some fishermen try to use materials from green PVC wire counters. This research was conducted in January 2021 in the Ombilin River, Sawahlunto City. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the number of catches of bamboo traps and wire traps operated in the Ombilin River. The data analysis method used in this research is t-test. The catches during the study were baung (Hemibagrus mestirus), cencen (Mystacoleucus marginatus), tilan (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia), and gabus (Channa striata). The results of the analysis showed that the difference in the number of catches based on weight and tail was more in wire traps compared to using bamboo traps, namely 37.33 fish and 2533.20 grams, this is the average number of catches for bamboo traps for 15 days of catching, while in wire traps with the average catch was 52.86 fish and 2810.87 grams. From the t-test analysis, there were differences in catches (tail and weight) between bamboo traps and wire traps operated in the Ombilin River, Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra Province.
