Abstract

Bengkalis Regency has an area of ​​972 hectares of areca nut (Bengkalis in Figures, BPS Bengkalis Regency). The potential is very large and prices tend to be stable and rising, so far the price of areca nut in Bengkalis has reached Rp. 25,000 per kilo, which is a really high price for areca nut farmers. The increase in the price of areca nut has made people start to open up land to plant areca nut. In the post-harvest areca processing process, there are several stages that are felt by areca nut farmers to be quite tiring and take a long time, including splitting the areca nut because they still use the manual method. Therefore we need a tool or machine that can accelerate the process of cleavage areca nut. The purpose of this research is to help areca nut farmers speed up the process of cleaving areca nut from manual to faster using machines. The machine is designed using a 7 PK diesel motor with one introduction blade and one blade. The transmission system uses a pulley connected to a v_belt and gears to change the rotation of the splitting blade with the conducting blade. Areca nut is inserted through the hopper and exits through the outlet in a split form. the method used in this research is the method of design, manufacture and experiment. From the results of the design and testing, the specifications of the betel nut splitting machine with dimensions of 110 cm long and 800 cm wide, using 3 mm steel plate as a hopper and 4 cm elbow iron 3 mm thick, one conveying blade 25 mm thick, steel blade 65 mm thick plated , pulley B1 diameter is 30 cm and uses a B1 36 belt, gears diameter 6 cm, bearing and shaft diameter 25 mm and a 7 HP diesel drive motor. 2. The test results with the recommended RPM variation for this areca nut splitting machine are 1000 RPM with perfect cleavage results reaching 94%. 3. The capacity of the areca nut splitting machine for the motor rotation speed of 800 RPM, 1000 RPM and 1300 RPM are 164 kg/hour, 220 kg/hour, and 266 kg/hour, respectively.
